View Full Version : Technical Rules for OEPS 2011
Hello OEPS organizers,
maybe it is time to start the discussion for 2011.
At first I would like to ask why soldering is not allowed for chassis construction? We drive so called 'free chassis' class but only one method (soldering) is forbidden??? I can't understand. Same time laser cutting, EDM and other very special methods are allowed? Or is it cheaper to buy CNC laser cuting statíon than dremel and soldering iron?

Hi Kai,
First, thank you for allowing me to beat you in the sprint race at Trier:kissing:
Second, I am not an OEPS organiser but would like to add my comments to your question:
- for me, our model cars are different for exactly the reason you mention - they are screwed and bolted together.
- once we allow soldering the difference between what we do and that which is done in scale cars will become extremely blurred and grey.:omg:
- imagine how easily our modelcars can then get confused with scale model cars and even D3 (God forbid)......:BangHead:
OEPS organisers, please don't allow soldering - just my 2cents!:nice:
Cheers
Jan
Kai,
Thanks for your question, and apologies for the silence from the OEPS org. We will discuss your question and give an answer in a day or two :-)

Fortunatelly, there was endurance race also :bleh:

I think the main difference between model cars and so called scale cars (eurosport, flexi etc.) should be body and wheels, not chassis. Nobody see chassis when car is running on the track.

If we run with commercial chassies it's very OK to use 'bolts and nuts' chassies.
If we run with free chassies it should be free. I can't understand only one method to construct chassis is forbidden. If I like I can built my chassis using (for example) LASER WELDING. Rulebook allow this.
We have to think what is the purpose of OEPS and chassis rule? Is it business for some chassis sellers? Is it racing class for innovative chassis builders?
In many cases soldering is the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to build slotcar chassis. Especially PROTOTYPE chassis.

Kai,
Yes and very well done by you and your team. :worshippy: It was great to race against all the top teams, ausFORCE almost never get that chance - in fact we almost never race against each other at this level either.:p6639707:
Cheers

Part of the OEPS org is occupied with ISRA-worlds. We will look into this question when everybody is back in Europe again.

Hello Rolf,
are they back in Europe yet? I would like to hear their comments before I start to make new chassis.

They should be back by now... Sorry forgot this one.
Since we are a new series we will not change the rules substantially already the second season. We will only make some minor changes. The “no solding” rule will not be changed. We do think your suggestion is interesting and will use this year to evaluate this together with the racers. So you must keep your solding iron cold for 2011. But in 2012 you might be able to fire it up.
Rolf
OK. Thanks Rolf for the reply.

Hi OEPS Team!
Some questions from my side because it is almost Feb 2011
will it be the proslot motor again?
will spur gear boxes on the body be allowed again or forbidden?
any other changes planned with the hand-out material?

Gerd

Hey Gerd,
In the coming week we'll make a final notice on the technical rules, but I can already tell you that the rules will stay very much the same as last year.
Basicly the only change we'll make is a slight increase in body weight, 32-33-35 grams, somewhere in that area. This is aimed at providing more 'space' to create a strong body that will survive the whole season. As said, more to follow on that this coming week.
The Proslots will be again our motor for the 2011 season.
Gearhouses on the bodies are technicly not allowed, since the rules say you have to race a true representation of 1/1 racecar. However for 2010 I tolerated them because of the fact that some racers for their first try-out, used a SLP2 chassis or similar, and with that chassis it's difficult to reach the gear if it's so far out.
For 2011 I do wish that everyone respects their body and not cut it up unnecessary, cause by now everyone almost uses homemade chassis and it's absolutely not necessary to make a gearhousing.
I know that most bodymakers like Fola and myself, make sure that a wheelhousing is 22mm wide at least measured over the topside. This means you've got around 21mm inside, and with a 13mm wide wheel... easy fit!!!
For 2012, this is one of the rules we will change and you can be sure they won't be allowed ;)
We race 1/24 copies of racecars. we don't race SLP :bouncy:
Handout materials will stay the same, except we are working on a new, and hopefully better, handout procedure to give both the racers and organisers a better view of what's going on.
I'm happy we'll see you and your team again in 2011. Have you cut the chassis yet? :autofahrer[1]:

Nick!
Ok, thank you.
The old car has one and I am not sure wether to use the old body or build a new one.
So its possible to use the old gearhoused one in 2011 (tolerated) but definetly not in 2012 -if I understood that correctly .
The next body won`t have a gearhouse anymore, altough this is not helpful to my latest chassis designs :p8712443:
We just tested with the old car yet. No specialties and no improvements... no step further at all...
Spa is a great track for those cars!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Gerd,
yes that's correct, it is allowed. No longer in 2012. We wanted to wait and see what the various Audi R15 makers would do but turns out they all have nice and wide wheelarches where the gear fits easily, so for 2012 it'll be pretty easy.
It's also pretty simple, if people would start to 'abuse' this friendlyness of the organisers, it'll just mean we'll make the rules tighter and tighter, which is no fun for any of us :p6639707:
Educated guesswork makes up about 95% of our 'knowledege' of chassis, and don't you love it when apparently all you thought you know didn't make the car any faster :rolling:
ciao
